Happy Eid
Happy Eid to every human out there. To those who know me, and to those who don’t. To those who love me, and to those that don’t. I hope you are having a splendid Eid full of peace, gratitude, and love.
Eid is celebrated right after fasting during the sacred month of Ramadan. Since Ramadan is a month deep in spiritual practices, this celebration comes to us as an ice breaker, reminding us to ground ourselves and enjoy the blessings and bounties of this temporary Paradise called Earth. And to grasp the perfect balance of spirituality and the material world. Many people are caught up on one or the other, and as they say, too much of anything isn’t wise.
Eid gathers the hearts and warms the souls. I always looked forward to Eid as a child, to the glitter hairspray from Claire’s accessories, the new outfits, and crying over the henna that got smudged.
For me, this day was when I felt I could embrace who I was. On Eid days my protective father would overlook the things he didn’t allow on casual days. And I would go all out. Eid was the time of the year when I was allowed to be me. You know when they ask you if you can be anyone for a day who would you be? Exactly, on that day I chose to be me. Myself.
Today I’ve decided to make every day a celebration of being me.
Cheers to being you.
